Grand Hotel occurs as 1932 art deco movie, and is considered as a classic of the sort.

These are life from either the point of see of the fly in a Five-star wall. These are a Depression and depression done in grand style. In which "People come, people go. Nothing ever happens."

A film come from either a original German play by Vicki Baum as adapted by William A. Drake and Béla Balázs. It was by Irving Thalberg and Paul Bern at MGM, and directed by Edmund Goulding. A top star, Greta Garbo delivered her famous "I want to be alone," in that film. the cast involved a series of top list: Lionel Barrymore, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery, Lewis Stone and Jean Hersholt.

Grand Hotel won a Best Picture Oscar, the sole of these for which it received the nomination. A 1945 remake Week-End at the Waldorf starring Ginger Rogers is very well forgotten.
